SAN FRANCISCO, November 2, 2026 — As athenahealth’s THRIVE Summit 2026 opens, Assort Health today announced digital intake and patient payment solutions on its Patient Journey Platform. The additions extend Assort’s AI agents beyond scheduling, referrals, and proactive outreach. MDCS Dermatology and Watauga Orthopaedics are among the organizations extending their Assort agents across multiple touchpoints in the patient journey. Since its first deployment in 2023, Assort has grown to support more than 200 healthcare organizations, including 40% of the Fortune 20 healthcare companies.

Bringing a fragmented patient journey onto one connected platform

Most healthcare organizations run a different system for each step of the patient journey. A patient books in one, completes intake in another and pays in a third, repeating information along the way. For practices, that fragmentation leads to additional administrative work: patients land in appointment slots that were never meant for them, and questions that could have been settled in advance arrive at the front desk.

Assort Health’s Patient Journey Platform brings those steps onto one set of agents, so inbound and outbound contact, scheduling, intake and patient balances all run against the same record of the patient.

MDCS, a leading dermatology group with 33 providers across 10 locations throughout New York and New Jersey, has added solutions as Assort has released them. “We keep expanding what we run on Assort because each addition has performed better than what it replaced,” said Dr. Pari Amin, Chief Executive Officer of MDCS Dermatology. “We’re constantly partnering to deliver more value, co-developing the next suite of tools like benefits coverage and prior authorization, where everything the agent already knows about the patient carries straight into the work.”

“We spent a lot of time onsite with MDCS, learning how each practice actually runs and configuring the agents around it,” said Jeff Liu, Founder and co-CEO of Assort Health. “That is how this context gets built in the first place. Charts are built to hold a patient’s care history, not the operational knowledge it takes to get them booked, prepared, and paid. We are building that layer alongside the EHR, so practices know more each time and the patient has to explain less.”

Intake and Payments extend the agents practices already run

Intake pre-fills forms from the scheduling call, the EHR, or past responses, and makes them available within athenahealth and 20+ other EHRs. The agent then follows up on missing items, so patients arrive ready and staff aren’t chasing paperwork. Payments lets patients resolve balances in pre-visit outreach or follow-up.

“When we connect context across the patient journey, we drive 12% higher resolution rates per patient,” said Jon Wang, Founder and co-CEO of Assort Health. “For example, a patient might get a call from one of our agents on a Tuesday and not be ready to schedule until they call back on Thursday. On most systems, that callback arrives with no record of what’s open: the referral, the half-finished intake, the balance. Our agents carry all of it, and it drives resolution: about 20% of patients in an outbound campaign call back to book, and 63% of patients who call in with an open referral book on that call.”

Watauga Orthopaedics, a physician-owned orthopedic group with five locations in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia, extended its existing Assort agents into intake rather than adding a vendor. “We evaluated and trialed several AI vendors,” said Kim Marden, Chief Executive Officer of Watauga Orthopaedics, “What sets Assort apart is that they understand the deep complexity of the patient journey, and they keep building further into it. Choosing a long-term partner was a significant decision for us, and we made it on the evidence that Assort has repeatedly built what we needed next.”

Agents continuously improve as they run longer and handle more

Assort configures each agent with a practice’s own business protocols, appointment history, and call transcripts, alongside a library of 62,000 codified care protocols and 1.6 million decision pathways, enabling the platform to launch with learned, specialty-specific expertise across provider practices and health systems. Improvements in resolution rates identified across more than 200 implementations can then be applied across the platform.

One example is language preference. Agents now remember a language after three non-English calls, skip shared numbers like an assisted living home’s main line, and let patients switch at any time. In the first week of rollout, 125 calls that started in a remembered language averaged 1.59 fewer patient turns than matched calls with the same intent at the same organizations, and patients were less likely to hang up early.

Calls that start in a patient’s remembered language take fewer turns to complete. Assort Health platform data, October, 2026, comparing 125 calls where a remembered language preference was applied against matched calls from the same organizations with the same call intent.
