A curious pattern: Two calls from the same phone numbers

A few weeks ago, our team noticed something strange: two calls came into one of our pediatric partner clinics: from the same phone number, just minutes apart.

It didn’t take long to uncover what was happening. We learned that the call came from one parent booking appointments for two of their children. One after another. 

The parent had called to book an appointment for one child… then hung up, and called again to schedule for the second.

We dug a bit deeper and learned that they were just trying to do something seemingly simple:

• Book back-to-back appointments
• With the same doctor
• At the same location

The process worked, to some extent, for the clinic. But it was undeniably stressful and inconvenient for the parents.

Our team asked a simple question: Why can’t parents schedule siblings at the same time?

The answer: no one had ever really tried and the problem can get complex pretty quickly. 

Coordinating even a single appointment requires navigating insurance, eligibility, triage rules — the list goes on. Handling two? The complexity doubles. We found this very relevant to the pediatric clinics we work with, but it also affected (to a lesser degree) optometry, allergy & ENT, and other specialties.
